Connect- By-Night
is a local emergency shelter program in the Eastern Delaware county area that provides shelter for homeless adult individuals and is organized by the Mental Health Association. Each night about 50-60 homeless adults know to wait at the end of Garrett Rd for a van to pick them up and take them to a facility. They go to the same place every night for one month.
Christ Community Church in Drexel Hill (337 Riverview Ave.) houses them the entire month of January and March. Each evening a group from the community serves them a light snack. The volunteers usually arrive at the church kitchen (you can drive your car in the driveway on Garrett Rd next to the white fence) at 9 P.M. and serve their snack around 10 when all the guests arrive. The volunteers are usually finished cleaning up at 10:30. In the morning the guests get up at 6 and are provided a bag lunch also from a community group (such as boys scout troops and youth groups).
If you and some friends would like to volunteer to make snack and/or lunches, please let us know and it can be scheduled. Remember that this is a commitment and cancelling at the last minute would be difficult. You can contact our office at [email protected] or call us during office hours at (610) 259-2696
